'Too late for many' - that's how Labour MP Frank Field, the Chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, described the governments' decision to pay back the money owed in Benefits to the Disabled People.
The government says that it is going to have to recruit extra staff to deal with the error that left 180 thousand of disabled people out of pocket. They were underpaid of an average 5 thousand pounds which will now have to be given back, costing the taxpayer 1 billion pounds.
‘Some of the claimants who should have been getting this money are already dead so presumably their estates will be paid this money but the whole group together has been living every day on the level of income that the Parliament has said was too little for them’
